Altering XML Schema Collection Problem

Hi,
I'm trying to add an extra element into a schema collection and keep getting
an error message:
"Msg 9455, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
XML parsing: line 3, character 1, illegal qualified name character
"
The SQL I'm using is:
alter xml schema collection dbo.EmployeeSchemaCollection ADD N'
<xsd:schema xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
<xsd:element name="Employee">
<xsd:complexType>
<xsd:element name="HireDate" type="xsd:datetime" />
</xsd:complexType>
</xsd:element>
</xsd:schema>'
Can anyone help?
ThanksI don't know this stuff much however should not be a ">" in the end of the
second line? (<xsd:schema xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema")

Alter service <SVC1> (Add contract <CONTRACT>) does not really work, need help

Hi,

Sure you can run

Create Service SVC1 ON QUEUE QUEUE1 (CONTRACT1);

alter service SVC1 (add contract CONTRACT2);

But You can only send message using contract1, when you try to send msg using contract2, it always say can not find CONTRACT "contract2".

The following query shows the contract is there.

select s.*,c.* from sys.service_contract_usages U

Allow zero length

We ran into a problem loading access where tables where if we did not
select the property allow zero length we got an error message when
loading data with some empty values.

We are now ramping up SQL server and the question came up will SQL
server have the same problem with empty data values.

Is there an SQL server equivalent to allow zero length?SQL-Server will always allow zero length values, unless you explicitely
add a constraint to disallow this.

So, by default, zero length values are allowed. If you do not want that,
you could run

ALTER TABLE mytable
ADD CONSTRAINT constraintname
CHECK (mycol <> '')

for each relevant column.

Hope this helps,
Gert-Jan

Allow broadcast from CLR Stored Procedure without using permission set 'Unsafe'

Hello,

I develop a database that notifies clients when data changes by sending an UDP broadcast message using an extended stored procedure. Now I want to use a CLR stored procedure to send the UDP broadcast instead:

using System;

using System.Data.SqlTypes;

using Microsoft.SqlServer.Server;

using System.Net.Sockets;

public partial class UserDefinedFunctions

{

[SqlProcedure]

public static void UdpSend(SqlString address, SqlInt32 port, SqlString message)

{

System.Net.Sockets.UdpClient client = new System.Net.Sockets.UdpClient();

byte[] datagram = message.GetUnicodeBytes();

client.Send(datagram, datagram.Length, (string)address, (int)port);

}

};

I have found that to be allowed to send to 255.255.255.255 I must give the assembly permission set 'Unsafe'. If I change to 'External access' I get:

Msg 6522, Level 16, State 1, Procedure UdpSend, Line 0

A .NET Framework error occurred during execution of user defined routine or aggregate 'UdpSend':

System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.

System.Security.SecurityException:

at System.Security.CodeAccessSecurityEngine.Check(Object demand, StackCrawlMark& stackMark, Boolean isPermSet)

at System.Security.CodeAccessPermission.Demand()

at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.CheckSetOptionPermissions(SocketOptionLevel optionLevel, SocketOptionName optionName)

at System.Net.Sockets.UdpClient.CheckForBroadcast(IPAddress ipAddress)

at System.Net.Sockets.UdpClient.Send(Byte[] dgram, Int32 bytes, String hostname, Int32 port)

at UserDefinedFunctions.UdpSend(SqlString address, SqlInt32 port, SqlString message)

I cannot use permission set 'Unsafe' in production environment, so what I want is to customize the effective permissions with higher resoloution than the three pre-defined permission sets 'Safe', 'External access' and 'Unsafe'. Except from what is allowed by 'Safe' I only want the permissions necessary to send an UDP broadcast.

Anyone who has something like this ?

No, you can not alter any of the existing permission sets. What you can do is, by using CAS, further restricting what a permission set can do by setting (for that assembly) specific CAS policies. However, you still have to create the assembly with whatever permission set, that is required.

Niels
|||You can't modify the built-in SQL CLR permission sets, but you can restrict your assembly's permission grant by using assembly-level permission attributes. However, your assembly would still need to be deployed at the UNSAFE level in order to be granted the SecurityPermission\UnmanagedCode permission that it needs.

All schedulers on Node 0 appear deadlocked due to a large number o

Hi,
I've noticed the following error message in the event viewer being reported
by SQL Server for a site that we've had online for several months without
incident. However, every so often now, SQL server is locking up and it seems
to be occurring after this error message:
All schedulers on Node 0 appear deadlocked due to a large number of worker
threads waiting on MSSEARCH
I can't seem to find any information on the specifics of what this error
means (or even the error number) or any recommendations for resolving it.
I'm presuming that this could be caused by a code issue, however, since there
Full Text Search is being called by itself (in the application) when it is
used, I don't see how this could be causing a deadlock in the traditional
sense. It also is weird that this seems to happen all at once, go away when
the server is restarted and then come back after a period of time (usually
during a period of low usage, like at night or over a weekend) ...
Thanks,
JeremyHello Jeremy,
Based on my experience, this problem might be a known issue fixed in SP1.
some of xp(name started with sql_OA) in SQL has CoInitialize leak that
causes FTS related issue. Full Text threads all waiting to be signaled,
with no apparent thread to signal them, causing a SQL Server Scheduler to
become hung.
Do you have SQL 2005 sp2 installed? If not, please apply SP2 to see if the
issue is resolved. If you have any update, please feel free to let's know.
Thank you.

Since you have SP2 installed, I suspect the problem might be caused by your
code related to FTS. Since FTS is deadlock due to this error, SQL Server
sessions waiting on MSSEARCH waittype, and some unresponsiveness in SQL
Server itself.
You need to restart FTS and/or SQL service to work around the problem. If
the issue persists, a system reboot is necessary. If you'd like to know the
root cause of the problem, you may need to analyze memory dumps, this work
has to be done by contacting Microsoft Product Support Services. Therefore,
we probably will not be able to resolve the issue through the newsgroups.

>|||Hello Jeremy,
This is not a simple deadlock situation that could be resolved by SQL
engine itself.
When the lock monitor initiates deadlock search for a particular thread, it
identifies the resource on which the thread is waiting. The lock monitor
then finds the owner(s) for that particular resource and recursively
continues the deadlock search for those threads until it finds a cycle. A
cycle identified in this manner forms a deadlock.
However, the deadlock is caused by FTS which is not a component inside SQL
engine. Therefore, it's more like a distributed deadlock that could not be
resolved by SQL engine itself.
Please understand above is just a suspect and you need to contact MS PSS to
analyze memory dump so taht you may get more clues on this issue. Thank
you.

Thanks for that clarification. Out of curiosity, since this appears to be
able to hang FTE for all databases (and the SQL server itself, in entirely),
do you know how hosting providers (with multiple clients each writing
uncontrollable queries) handle this issue?
Is there a particularly good way to detect this problem automatically and
restart FTE (since the process still looks to be in a normal state, even
while it is actually hung ...)
Thanks,

Thank you for your reply.
When the issue occurs, you should be able to find Sysprocesses shows lots
of queries waiting on MSSEARCH. To temporarily work around the issue, you
may want to develope some monitor tools to check the status of
Sysprocesses. If you find too many Sysprocesses are waiting for MSSEARCH,
you may try to restart FTS service to see if the issue is not solved. If
not, it should notify admin to manually do some operations.
As I mention, to find the root cause of the issue, it's suggested that you
contact MS PSS for dump analysis. If you have any further qusetions or
concerns on this, please feel free to let's know. Thank you.

Thank you for your posting!
Based on my test, you could just put the textbox next to the right border
of your report. The textbox will align with the right border of the report.
Please try and let me know the result.

run than it is in the designer. And there's no way to determine, at design
time, how wide the report will, as the matrix expands dynamically based on
the criteria entered by the user at run time.
So... Is there any way to dynamically position any of the controls at run
time?
Thanks.

Thank you for the update.
You could not control the position of the control dynamically in the
report.
If the text box left border is next to the right border of the matrix, the
textbox will be position on the right of the matrix.
Hope this will be helpful.

How are you doing on this issue? Does Wei's suggestion in the last reply
helps you some? If you still have any problems or need any further

below and aligned with the right border of the matrix...
At run time, the matrix expands to accomodate maybe 3 to 7 columns,
depending on data. But the textbox stays at the position it was at in the
designer.
I want the text box's right edge position to stay aligned with the right
edge of the matrix as it expands.
Thanks.
