allowing other computers to connect to my msde server

Hi -
I have successfully set up msde on my computer - and would like to know how
can install the MS SQL odbc driver on other computers to connect to my
server.
I cant seem to find the MS SQL driver by itself or with an installation
package.
Thanks
AL
The ODBC and OLE DB drivers come installed with any post Windows 95/ NT 4
Microsoft operating system, and for NT 4 they're included in SP4 IIRC. You
can also download MDAC, which includes all the drivers, from:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/downl...s/default.aspx

Allowing a conenction to a SQL Server 2005 database from another computer on a LAN

I am working with one other person on a VS 2005 vb.net web project that accesses SQL Server 2005. Both the computers are connected and my partner can run the application on his computer from his VS 2005 but we are getting an error on our first databind to a gridview on the page we are trying to run the error is below

A connection was successfully established with the
server, but then an error occurred during the
pre-login handshake. When connecting to SQL Server
2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that
under the default settings SQL Server does not allow
remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider,
error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.)

I check the properties of the SQL Server and the check box is checked that says allow remote access. I am not sure what to do.

Hi,

First, please try to allow remote connections for TCP/IP and Named Pipe according to the following KB article.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914277/en-us

If that still doesn't work, you can check the following link for troubleshooting.

All drivers in ODBC MMC console are missing

When I open up the ODBC MMC console on this Win XP computer and click on the
Drivers tab, there is not a single driver listed in the tab.
I then tried to install latest MDAC and confirmed through Component Checker
utility that SQL related drivers are installed in the computer, but yet thes
e
drivers dont appear in the ODBC MMC console. I've even tried to reinstall Je
t
4.0 for Win XP but have the same result.
Any idea how do I get back the list in the Drivers tab of ODBC MMC console?Hi
You may want to try un-registering/registering each of dlls with regsvr32,
or check out the articles regarding removing MDAC on MSDN and then re-instal
l
it.

Couldn't resist. :D

I'll see if I can find anything that might have caused this, but I've never seen it before.|||Dig hard man.. Its realy sucks to work with such alignment.|||I suspect this is a result of server settings on your platform.

What regional options do you have for your Locale and your Default Language?|||You mean like this ... go to control panel ... regional settings ... General tab ... and set english to default. :D ;) :p :).|||Nope,

Hi,
Guess what you are right, its because Australia, hence the up side down :D Nah kidding
It wasnt the default language that wasnt set to English it was the Language for non-unicode Programs that wasnt set to English.
Cheers mate !!
