Allowing users to type in characters in a drop down list?

is this even possible in reporting services? I already deployed reports for our client using Reporting Services 2000, one of their complaints was that the dropdownlist of the reports contains a very long list of data, this list cannot be shorten since all data are required. Is there a way to let the users type in characters, not only one character to find the exact data they want. The data in the drop down list are needed because these data are parameters.

Are there any web based reporting tools which can provide this kind of requirement?

Reporting Services utilises standard HTML controls (apart from multi-value parameters). The only typing supported in a html drop-down is by first letter.

You could come up with a 2 dependant parameter approach, where users type into a textbox and the dropdown list filters based on the pattern typen into the textbox. This however would not happen as they type, they would need to leave focus from the textbox which would then postback and do the filtering server-side.

The only other option is to code your own parameter UI.

Allignment Problem in the Body of the Report

When I preview the report In design mode all contents in the body of the report allign perpectly. After I deployed my report, some of the fields did not allign properly.
I am using a combination of text boxes and tables. I have tried to put the text box and/or the table in rectangles, but this method does not solve my allignment problem. I also did not check The Can increase to accommodate contents.
Thanks,
AugustaI am assuming that you are rendering the report using HTML. By chance do you
have overlapping items in your report? HTML does not support overlapping
items -- they will "move" around when the report is rendered.

All Hardware Being Equal

Does SQL Server 2005 Express perform equal to SQL Server 2005 Enterprise? Basically, if the hardware that both editions were deployed on was identical and configured with in conjunction with the hardware limitations that Express imposes, would the two editions perform the same when running the same querries?

I have read that SQL Express uses the same database engine but does this mean that the Express edition will perform as well as the Enterprise edition?

SQL Express has certain limits. Only 1 CPU is used, only 1GB of RAM is used, no 64-bit support, databases can't be larger than 4GB. If you're comparing SQL Express to SQL Enterprise on a hardware above these things, Enterprise will definitely be faster as it doesn't have such limits.

From a software standpoint, the only performance feature difference I'm aware of is that SQL Enterprise will consider Indexed Views when optimizing queries... any lesser version (inlcuding SQL Standard) will not do this.

There may be differences in the default configuration of the editions, too.

So, as you can see, it's a bit tricky to get an apples-to-apples comparison :-) All things considered, though, the performance should be pretty close on small databases.
